Pay it Forward

I am playing pay it forward! I threw my name in over on KT's blog. So here are the rules:

1. You must have a blog to play.
2. The first three people to comment on this post agree to play pay it forward by posting on their blog and playing with the first three people that comment on their blog.
3. I agree to send, sometime withing 365 days, a gift to those same three people who commented on this blog post. (That is the "playing" part!) The gift doesn't have to be crafty, so don't worry about that.

Email me if you have questions! Have fun!

It's Coming Along

This is another quilt that I'm making for Quilts for Kids. The organization sent me "boy" fabrics so I decided to make a "girl" quilt to send back, as well.

The outer border needs quilting, the binding needs to be done, and it will be ready to mail. The pattern was simple and it was a lot of fun to put together.

In the instructions, they ask that you zigzag or blanket stitch the border, so that it does not get caught on an IV.

There is a little girl out there, that I've never met, with an IV. She's a cutie, with the delicate porcelain skin typical for a person who doesn't get outside much. She's brave. Her siblings share stories of school and friends and sports and she grins and bears it.

She likes pink. And she really really loves kitties.

Weekend Sewing

I've been working on two Quilts for Kids. The tops are finished; now I need to make the quilt sandwich and quilt them up.

Someone thinks they need to test them out first to make sure they are okay for the kids' use.

Painted Pumpkins

Randy's mom likes her pumpkins painted, not carved.

So, of course, I obliged.

Apparently, one of them has been flossing and brushing and the other one, not so much.

More Purses

I made two more of these. They go together really quickly. I have an additional 2 or 3 people in mind that I'd like to make one for.

I've been using home dec weight fabric and I need to get more.

I see a shopping trip in my future.

Pockets inside and out.

I may have to make myself another one, also.

Quilts for Kids

Look what came by UPS today. So cute!

This came from Quilts for Kids. They did the fabric cutting before they sent it to me. My job is to sew it together and quilt it and send it back.

Before I mail it in, I'll be sure to show you the completed quilt. Stay tuned!

I Made a Purse!

This fabric was left from some pillow shams I made for Jamie and Diedra. The pattern was easy, fun to make, and ancient. Copyright 1975. It sold for $1.25. Patterns sell for about 10 times that now.

I think it turned out really cute. I could hardly wait to transfer my stuff from my old purse, and it all fit perfectly.

Pockets inside and out! The pockets weren't on the original pattern; I added them in my usual "must modify" form. But still easy to make. It was Simplicity 7004, in case you'd like to try to find the pattern on eBay.

Pumpkin Party!

These were fun to make. We used ready-made Rice Krispie bars. The green icing is the result of a Google search for "cookie icing that hardens." It's the one that uses corn syrup, not the one called Royal Icing. Randy added the hair (sprinkles) right after I spread the green icing, since it sets up fairly quickly. Then, I used the little icing tubes from the grocery store for the eyes, mouth, and scar.

The kidlets picked out pumpkins.

A good time was had by all.

My Favorite Quilt

This is my entry in the Park City Girl: Quilt Festival

My favorite quilt is actually a wall-hanging. It's the first thing I see when I enter through my front door. It welcomes my family home, and hopefully welcomes those that visit us, as well.

It combines piecing with applique. I had a blast making it. Thanks for viewing!

Thrift Store Shopping

My friend Vicky and I went browsing through a few Madison thrift stores. "A few" is deceiving, though, since each store takes an hour or two to really do justice to the hunt.

We shopped all day. We found many treasures. Books, linens, stoneware. Fun!

Look at the cute cute cute vintage napkins and the creamy white Pfaltzgraff serving platter. The platter was $1.99 at Goodwill. The napkins were 49 cents each. Amazing.

Embroidery and Quilting

My mother embroidered six of these squares and I am contemplating how to set them into a quilt. I think I'll use assorted blues for sashing. I'm thinking of using yellow fabric for the corner squares. Then, she and I will quilt it together and we will end up with a beautiful, meaningful keepsake.

Block of the Month Quilt

Here is my most recently completed quilt. It was a BOM at my local quilt shop from a few years ago and I finally got it put together. It was fun to make all these different blocks. The fabric is 30s reproduction.

The second picture shows the quilt after I've washed and dried it which gives it that nice puckered old-fashioned texture.

A Favorite Scene

I love this view! My sweetie making a fire.

It's an everyday task at our house and will continue on through spring. Randy is out chopping wood right now to stockpile for the wild Wisconsin winter.

How does that go? Firewood warms you twice: once while you are chopping it, and again while you are enjoying the crackling fire.
