An Addition to the Family

I found her in the hospice thrift shop in Madison. She was awfully cute and looked to be in good shape. She even had her key that works to keep her case together. So she came home with me.

Ok, let's quit calling her "she" because it's getting annoying.

I took my new-to-me Singer to the shop to get tuned up and cleaned and I was told that it was manufactured between 1947 and 1949. No fancy stitches, just a straight stitch.

What I find intriguing is imagining the previous owner sewing and thinking of some of the projects that were constructed on this machine.

I plan to load it up with white or off-white thread and use it to piece quilts.

Oh! and I called it an addition to the family because this is my sixth sewing machine. Yikes, does that make it a collection?

I love it, even if it wouldn't stitch any more! You do have a collection of machines now, Sue. But that doesn't mean you have a problem!! Nice find. :-}

What a wonderful find! Its a beauty for sure. and to have an intact case is awesome!
I am eager to set up my sewing and craft room upstairs and bring my great grandmother's treadle machine from my mom's house and get another vintage machine out of my cellar. I just have my old reliable touch and sew in use right now.
Those old machines are real work horses, I love them.

Greetings from a fellow Wisconsinite. Somehow I missed this post on Vintage Thingie Thursday. That sure is a beautiful machine, and the case! I bought a Singer 301 at a thrift store this past fall and it pieces beautifully. I can see how buying these can become an addiction. Enjoy!

I'm taking a class at my upcoming retreat about how to treat my vintage feather weight. It will be fun to get better acquainted with her.

She is beautiful! I'm glad you'll be taking good care of her now. (And, no, I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking of your treasures as she or he.)
